Nevis’ Junior Tourism Minister Prepares to Represent the Island at Regional Congress

Nevis’ Junior Tourism Minister, Kayla Claxton, is preparing to carry the island’s flag later this month at the 2025 edition of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Regional Tourism Youth Congress in Barbados.

Claxton, a 5th Form student at the Gingerland Secondary School, earned the right to represent Nevis after winning the local competition in May. She will join Junior Ministers from 13 other countries at the regional event, which highlights the next generation of tourism leaders across the Caribbean.

As part of her preparations, Claxton paid a courtesy call on Bank of Nevis CEO Denrick Liburd at the bank’s Main Street, Charlestown headquarters on Tuesday, September 2. The Bank has proudly served as the title sponsor of the Nevis Junior Tourism Minister competition for over a decade, playing a key role in nurturing young talent in the sector.

She was accompanied by Vanessa Webbe of the Nevis Tourism Authority, the organisers of the local contest. During the visit, Claxton provided Mr Liburd with an update on her readiness for the regional stage.

Nevis has an impressive track record at the Youth Congress. In 2024, the island’s representative, Keyana Warner, secured the regional title, bringing pride and recognition to the Federation.

The community is now rallying behind Claxton as she seeks to repeat that success. Residents are encouraged to show their support as she prepares to showcase Nevis’ ideas, talent and leadership to the wider Caribbean.
