Nevis Youth Join the Conversation: Sixth Form Students Engage Leadership on Destiny Project

The dialogue around Nevis’ proposed Destiny Project moved into the classroom today as members of the island’s leadership met with students from the Nevis Sixth Form College for a frank and energetic exchange on the future of the island’s South Coast.

The discussion formed part of the ongoing public consultations on the multi-billion-dollar Special Sustainability Zone (SSZ), which aims to transform underdeveloped areas into a model of sustainable growth, environmental stewardship, and opportunity for locals.

In a post shared earlier today, Premier Mark Brantley described the meeting as “an excellent exchange,” highlighting the importance of including young voices in shaping Nevis’ long-term vision. “We value the views and opinions of our youth,” he said, “because they are the ones who will have to manage Nevis into the future.”

Students reportedly raised thoughtful questions about employment, education, and the environmental aspects of the project, with several noting the importance of balancing progress and preservation.

The engagement comes as part of a broader series of stakeholder consultations that have already included the business community, media, tourism leaders, and residents across the island. Later this evening, the conversation will continue with construction and heavy equipment stakeholders, as consultations expand to ensure every sector has a seat at the table.

As the dialogue continues, what’s becoming clear is that Nevis is having one of its most wide-ranging and inclusive public conversations in years — and the next generation is right at the heart of it.
