Nevis Youth Talking Change — Destiny Project Sparking Fresh Perspective

The young people of Nevis showing once again that they’re not just online scrolling — they’re paying attention, thinking critically, and ready to help shape the island’s future.

In a new opinion piece by Micahail Herbert, titled “Nevis’ youth understands the promise of change,” the message clear: the next generation gets it. The proposed Destiny Special Sustainability Zone (SSZ) isn’t just a project to them — it’s a test of leadership, information, and vision.

Herbert pointed out that when sixty students gathered earlier this month to meet with the Premier and Cabinet, the energy in the room was real. These weren’t passive listeners — they asked questions, raised concerns, and, by the end, many walked away excited about what Destiny could mean for Nevis.

One sixth-former summed it up best: “I admit I had concerns based on what I was hearing over the past few weeks, but hearing from the forum I think it’s a good opportunity.”

Herbert didn’t shy away from the noise surrounding the project either, calling out how misinformation online has twisted the narrative. “A regulated sustainability zone being described as ‘neocolonialism’ or a ‘land grab’ is good evidence of that,” he wrote. But the students, he noted, could see through the propaganda — they wanted the facts, and once they got them, they understood the potential.

Another student called the project “one of the best financial decisions made in St. Kitts and Nevis,” referring to the proposed US$50 million investment, 20% profit share for Nevis, and the US$1 million annual scholarship programme earmarked for locals.

Herbert ended on a note of pride and challenge — saying that the island’s young people have something to teach the rest of us. That embracing change isn’t betrayal, it’s progress. And that, as he quoted from Barack Obama, “We are the ones we’ve been waiting for.”

Run Di Chat view: Nevis youth nah wait on nobody. They seeing past the noise, talking sense, and ready to claim their share of the island’s future. Change in motion, and the next generation already leading the charge.
