Our land, our future, our voice? NRP takes to the streets later today
The Nevis Reformation Party (NRP) will later today stage a Peaceful Protest and Rally in Charlestown, beginning at 3pm at D.R. Walwyn Plaza and running until 6pm. Branded under the slogan “Protect what’s ours”, the event promises speeches from NRP leaders, paraphernalia giveaways, a meet-and-greet with representatives, and even a performance of the tongue-in-cheek track “A wah coulda cause this?!”
The rally comes amid heightened friction between NRP, its leader Dr Janice Daniel-Hodge, and Premier Mark Brantley. The party is expected to centre its messaging on the land issue, presenting itself as the defender of Nevisian ownership and rights.
While supporters may view this as a stand for transparency and accountability, sceptics point out that NRP is long on slogans and short on solutions. Critics argue that the party has leaned more on rallies and catchy one-liners than on clear policy, raising questions about whether today’s event is about protecting land or simply protecting political relevance.
With CCM comfortably holding the reins of government, NRP’s afternoon march could serve as either a show of strength or a public reminder of the party’s uphill struggle. Whether this gathering shifts the political landscape or ends up as just another chorus of “A wah coulda cause this?!” sung to the converted will be clear soon enough.
