Pogson tapped as Acting Financial Secretary

Word outta Basseterre this week: Government done name Carlton Pogson as the new Acting Financial Secretary. Big role, big responsibility — he’ll be steering fiscal policy, budgets, and the whole financial governance ship for the Federation.

So who is the man now holding the purse strings? Pogson isn’t new to money talk. With over 20 years in banking and finance, he’s put in work at Republic Bank, Scotiabank and the Development Bank of St Kitts and Nevis. Along the way, he restructured multimillion-dollar debt portfolios, tightened compliance, and helped push through serious strategic changes. Translation: this ain’t no rookie.

Beyond the boardroom, Pogson has also chaired the Caribbean Wesleyan College Board of Governors in Jamaica and is active in the Wesleyan Holiness Church. Add in charitable work and a trio of degrees — Accounting, MBA, plus a Master’s in Christian Theology — and you get the picture: a man who mixes business brains with community service.

Government say they expect his leadership to keep the economy steady and moving forward. With challenges global and local, the Federation will be watching closely to see how Pogson shapes fiscal policy and handles the nation’s books.

For now, congratulations are in order. New role, new responsibility — and a reminder that in a small island nation, the right financial captain can make all the difference.
