SKN locks in food security partnership with Nigeria
Saint Kitts and Nevis is taking bold steps on the global stage as Agriculture Minister Hon. Samal Duggins travelled to Abuja to seal talks with Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari. The focus? Food security, economic diversification and stronger Afro-Caribbean ties.
Nigeria, boasting more than 80 million hectares of arable land and an agricultural sector already powering over 25% of its GDP, is positioning itself as a major force in global agri-business. Minister Kyari told the Kittitian delegation that Nigeria is ready to share knowledge, supply eco-friendly fertilisers, and open up investment opportunities in irrigation and other agricultural technology. 🌱💡
He reminded that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to St Lucia sparked a new wave of initiatives designed to strengthen transatlantic partnerships. For St Kitts and Nevis, that means new possibilities for capacity building, agro-industry investment and trade in raw materials.
Minister Kyari called the collaboration part of a “Transatlantic Dream” that unites Africa and the Caribbean in shared prosperity and sustainability.
On his part, Minister Samal Duggins said the partnership is about much more than trade. It’s about knowledge exchange, boosting food sovereignty, and ensuring small nations like St Kitts and Nevis have resilient food systems.
The takeaway: With Nigeria’s scale and resources meeting St Kitts and Nevis’ ambition, this collaboration could be a blueprint for how Caribbean nations strengthen their security and growth by building bridges with Africa.
