Teacher’s Perfect Résumé Turn Out Too Good To Be True

St. Kitts and Nevis’ education circles buzzing this week after news broke that a teacher’s résumé - once praised as “impressive” — might not have been entirely real.

The individual, who had recently joined one of the Federation’s secondary schools, was celebrated for an academic record that seemed spotless: multiple degrees, international teaching experience, and glowing recommendations. But when the paperwork was quietly double-checked, some of those credentials started to crumble.

Officials reportedly grew suspicious after routine background checks raised red flags with one of the overseas institutions listed on the résumé. Follow-up calls and document requests revealed inconsistencies that couldn’t be easily explained. Within days, what looked like a model hire turned into a disciplinary headache.

The Ministry of Education has launched a formal review, confirming that the teacher has been asked to provide verification for all qualifications submitted during the hiring process. Parents, meanwhile, expressing shock that such a case could slip through official screening. One parent outside the school told local reporters, “We trust the system to check these things. If this could happen once, who knows how many others pass through?”

Education officers now facing tough questions about recruitment procedures, especially as new teachers arrive from overseas to fill gaps in the system. Senior staff say the situation highlights why tighter verification standards are needed — not just for foreign applicants, but for locals too.

So far, no charges or formal dismissals announced, but the investigation is ongoing. The incident has stirred a wider conversation about accountability and trust within SKN’s schools — and how easily a polished résumé can fool even the most confident institutions.
