World’s Largest Floating Book Fair ‘Logos Hope’ Docks in St Kitts — Open to the Public Until November 4
The world’s largest floating book fair has sailed into Basseterre, bringing a sea of stories and inspiration with it. The Logos Hope, a massive ship dedicated to spreading knowledge and cultural exchange, docked at Port Zante on Thursday morning to a warm St Kitts welcome.
An official ceremony held onboard marked the vessel’s arrival, attended by Governor-General Dame Marcella Liburd, who joined the ship’s captain and director in officially cutting the ribbon to open the fair.
Governor-General Liburd described the visit as an “educational and cultural voyage,” urging residents and visitors alike to take advantage of the rare opportunity. “This is a space where learning meets adventure,” she said, encouraging students and young people to explore the ship’s decks and discover the joy of reading.
The Logos Hope is open to the public daily from 11 a.m. until November 4, offering thousands of affordable books across genres like science, history, literature, and faith. The fair is already drawing large crowds, including school groups and families eager to browse the floating library’s global collection.
The Malta-registered vessel is operated by a non-profit organisation and crewed by over 350 volunteers from 65 countries, making it not just a book fair but a cultural experience. Since its first voyage in 1970, the ship has visited more than 150 ports across 83 nations, welcoming over 50 million visitors worldwide.
Sharing the news on Facebook, Logos Hope’s team wrote: “It’s almost October 30th which means the Logos Hope is arriving in Saint Kitts! Come visit us at Port Zante — you are more than welcome!”
If you’re in St Kitts and haven’t yet been aboard, this weekend is your chance to step onto a ship filled with knowledge, culture, and stories from around the world.
