Another Day, Another Supermarket Robbery in St Kitts
The wave of armed supermarket robberies that has been shaking St Kitts shows no sign of slowing. On Sunday 31 August, yet another hold-up rattled Newtown, when a masked gunman stormed Hong Yun Supermarket on Newtown Bay Road just after midday.
π€ Armed and masked, the assailant demanded cash and made off with a significant sum before disappearing. Thankfully no one was hurt, but the community is shaken.
This comes after a string of recent supermarket robberies across the island, sparking fears among residents and business owners alike. For many, it feels like a dangerous trend that is spiralling out of control.
π The Crime Scene Unit of the RSCNPF processed the site and collected evidence, while police investigations are ongoing. But the big question remains β how much longer will supermarkets remain easy targets?
With supermarkets being hit week after week, citizens are calling for stronger police presence, tougher deterrents, and faster justice.
π£οΈ As one concerned Newtown resident put it: βWe canβt even buy bread in peace anymore. This have to stop.β
π The community waits anxiously to see if authorities can get ahead of this alarming crime trend before it escalates further.
