Back To School Season Kicks Off Across SKN
With schools set to reopen today, students across St Kitts and Nevis are heading into the new term with fresh supplies, trims, and braids thanks to a series of community back-to-school events.
👟 PM Hosts 13th Annual Fair
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew kept tradition alive with his 13th back-to-school fair for the young people of St Christopher 8. From preschoolers to high schoolers, children turned up at National Heroes Park in Cayon to pick up school supplies, get free haircuts, new braids, and more. What started over a decade ago has now become a staple for families in the constituency and beyond, helping ease the pressure of back-to-school costs.
📚 Champs For Charity Delivers Big
Meanwhile, Champs for Charity Foundation held its third annual back-to-school event at the NCI Grounds on August 29. Hundreds of children were given essential supplies to start the year right. The foundation, launched ten years ago by Shirley Morgan, has built a reputation for stepping in to support families — from helping fire victims to funding school needs.
Morgan explained her motivation comes from her own experience growing up in a large family: “I always felt I needed to do more for the community. Champs for Charity gave me that platform.”
🤝 Community Partners Step Up
The event wouldn’t have been possible without backing from a long list of donors, including the Antioch Baptist Church, CIBC, Social Security, Carib Brewery, RAMS, KFC, and even the Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan). Their support ensured that students walked away with books, bags, uniforms, and more.
🎒 Beyond Supplies
For both events, the focus was not only on school materials but also on building confidence. Fresh haircuts, neat braids, and a strong sense of community spirit set the tone for the new school year.
With students ready to hit the classrooms next week, the message is clear: in St Kitts and Nevis, education is a community effort.
