Luxury Tourism in Nevis Enters New Era
Four Seasons Resort Nevis, long regarded as one of the Caribbean’s premier luxury destinations, has appointed Avi Phookan as its new General Manager. With more than two decades of international hospitality experience, Phookan brings both a passion for guest service and a proven track record in environmental stewardship.
Most recently General Manager at Four Seasons Resort Lanai in Hawaii, Phookan led initiatives that won awards for sustainable operations and guest experience. His global career has spanned Dubai, Doha, New Orleans, Charleston and Belize, with Caribbean experience at The Ritz-Carlton in Grand Cayman and the St Kitts Marriott Beach Resort.
At Four Seasons Nevis, he will oversee all aspects of operations, from culinary programmes and wellness to sustainability efforts, ensuring the resort maintains its reputation for timeless luxury while embracing responsible practices.
While the Four Seasons stands as Nevis’ established anchor of high-end tourism, the island is also looking to the future through its newly introduced Special Sustainability Zone (SSZ) legislation. Unlike the resort, which was developed decades ago, the SSZ framework sets a new model for investment – requiring developers to commit to renewable energy, water security, waste management and heritage protection as part of any large-scale project.
The distinction is clear: Four Seasons Nevis is a cornerstone of the island’s current tourism economy, while the SSZ offers a forward-looking path for additional projects that match Nevis’ ambitions for sustainability and resilience. Together, they point to an island positioning itself as a destination where world-class hospitality and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.
As Phookan takes the reins at Four Seasons and the SSZ opens the door to future developments, Nevis is reinforcing its identity as both a leader in Caribbean luxury and a pioneer in sustainable growth.
