Mutryce Williams Mek History at UN Charter Anniversary
Talk about representing on the world stage. On June 26, 2025, while vibes still lingering from the St Kitts Music Festival, Ambassador H.E. Dr Mutryce Williams stepped up in full diplomatic form, delivering a powerful address to the United Nations General Assembly on behalf of the entire Caribbean Community (CARICOM). The moment marked 80 years since the signing of the UN Charter and she came ready.
Representing St Kitts and Nevis and the region at large, Ambassador Williams made it clear where small island states stand in global affairs. Her words were precise, firm and full of Caribbean pride. She spoke not just for leaders but for people, not just for history but for the future.
“For the peoples of CARICOM, the UN Charter is both a foundational text and a living covenant,” she told the Assembly. “We honour the legacy of the signing of the charter as the choice of unity over division and principle over power.”
She then pointed to Article 2, Paragraph 1 of the Charter, which speaks to the sovereign equality of nations. It is that principle, she said, that shapes the way CARICOM engages with the world. Small states may be limited in size but not in voice, influence or values. 🌐
According to her, this spirit of equality has empowered the region to contribute meaningfully to global norms, push for development that matters and stand up for justice and peace.
"We have embodied the spirit of multilateralism in championing deliberate peace, championing development and defending the rule of law."
This was not just a ceremonial moment. It was a clear message. The Caribbean is present, aware and active in shaping the global conversation. No longer just participating, but leading where it matters most.
Dr Mutryce Williams stood tall for SKN and for CARICOM. From Basseterre to Bridgetown, the whole region can claim that moment with pride. 🌴📣
