Opposition Stirring Pot Over “March 4 Our Rights” – But Who Really Losing Here?

So today supposed to be the big day. Citizens Empowerment Coalition (CEC) link up with PAM and PLP banners to flood Bay Road for this so-called “March 4 Our Rights.” Word is they gathering from 2:30 p.m., PAM rolling in later to “swell the numbers.” Big slogans, plenty heat, but let’s be honest — the whole thing look more like theatre than solution.

The flyers and loudspeakers pushing the same tired lines: “land giveaway,” “private city,” “state within a state.” Yet anybody who actually read the Special Sustainability Zone (SSZ) Bill knows better. The SSZ is not no breakaway state — it stays 100% Nevisian, subject to SKN law and the Constitution. Beaches still public, fishing still open, and locals still free to move in and out.

But here’s the kicker: while opposition leaders crying crocodile tears about “patrimony,” some of their own already sold private land to developers and pocketed the cash. Funny how that part never make it on the protest banners.

Meanwhile, the SSZ is setting up real jobs, real investment, and infrastructure that locals could only dream of a decade ago. Hotels, housing, renewable energy, restored coastal lands — all with sustainability baked in. Ask any young Kittitian or Nevisian what they want most and you’ll hear the same thing: opportunity. That’s what this zone brings.

So why the march? Simple — politics. Harris and PAM want headlines. DJ Morrishow want soundbites. Opposition MPs want to rile up supporters. But in the middle of the noise, the real question gets drowned out: why would anyone be against Nevis thriving?

Run Di Chat take: Today might bring a big crowd, but history will show the protest as a stunt. The SSZ? That’s the real legacy project.
