SKN Crime Strategy Turning Heads in Anguilla
Turns out SKN’s approach to crime prevention isn’t just working at home — it’s now catching the attention of our neighbours too.
In September, Hance Richards, Research and Data Analysis Officer at the Citizen Security Secretariat, linked up virtually with Anguilla’s Governor Julia Crouch and Community Planner Hyacinth Bradley. The talk? How to deal with rising violent crime without just leaning harder on the police.
Instead of “lock them up and throw away the key”, the SKN model flips the script — treating violence like a public health issue. That means looking at root causes like unemployment, substance abuse and youth frustration, and tackling them head-on with data, mental health support, education and community programmes.
Anguilla officials were impressed. Minister Shellya Rogers-Webster said what stood out most was SKN’s unity. No partisan bickering, no political grandstanding — just everybody on the same page pushing the same strategy. And the results speak: SKN has already seen a big drop in murders.
Run Di Chat take: SKN showing the region that when you drop the politics and back a solid plan, real change is possible. Big up Hance Richards and the Citizens Security Secretariat for leading the charge.
