Tropical Storm Jerry Strengthening — Caribbean on Alert as System Tracks West

Tropical Storm Jerry brewing out in the Atlantic has the Caribbean on alert, with forecasters saying the system could strengthen into a hurricane within days. Winds have already climbed to around 50 miles per hour, and the storm is moving quickly west-northwest toward the Leeward Islands.

Models show Jerry likely passing just north of islands such as Antigua, Barbuda, and possibly skimming close to St. Kitts and Nevis later this week. Even if it doesn’t make a direct hit, residents are being warned to expect heavy rainfall, strong gusts, and rough surf along coastal areas.

Local disaster officials say now is the time to prepare — clear drains, secure loose items, and avoid low-lying roads once rain begins. Fishing vessels are being advised to stay in port as the system’s outer bands could bring dangerous swells and sudden squalls.

While early forecasts suggest Jerry might curve northward before reaching the Greater Antilles, its path could still shift. Meteorologists are reminding everyone across the Eastern Caribbean to stay alert, stay informed, and not take the system lightly.

The message from emergency services is simple: stay ready, not sorry.
